Update on University Opening for Faculty and Staff

Old Dominion University faculty and staff are expected to report to work according to their normal schedule on Monday, Aug. 29.

Classes are still cancelled for Monday and Tuesday.

The university is experiencing widespread phone outages and offices should be prepared to provide customer service via email and walk-ins. All offices should refer to their Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP) for additional details on how to operate during this period.

Additionally, our residence halls are currently without power. We are expecting power to be restored in a timely manner and, if so, will permit students to move into the residence halls on Tuesday and begin classes on Wednesday.

If power is not restored as expected, these dates may change. An update on whether power has been restored or not, will be announced by 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 29.

Because move-in and welcome activities have been significantly shortened, we will need as many volunteers as possible to make the students' start of the academic year a positive and helpful experience.

Volunteers are needed on Tuesday to help with residence hall check-in and moving, and on Wednesday for directional and other information. If you are interested in volunteering, please send an email to Don Stansberry at dstansbe@odu.edu with the day and times you are available to help.

Facilities Management has cleared all campus buildings to be safe for occupancy, but there remain some outdoor areas that are taped off due to tree damage. We do expect to find a number of issues related to window and roof leaks as you return to your offices. With limited phone service and to better manage the volume of expected requests, facilities asks that all work order requests be submitted online via Maintenance Direct. Some administrative and educational buildings on campus have a point of contact who typically coordinates facilities matters - please utilize that resource. Otherwise, you can find directions to create a Maintenance Direct account at www.odu.edu/md.

The Child Development Center and Child Study Center will be closed Monday.

We appreciate the entire Old Dominion University community's patience and teamwork as we get the campus up and running and create the best possible start of the academic year for everyone.
