ODU ENGINEERING STUDENT-ATHLETE EARNS CAA SCHOLARATHLETE AWARD

Kristofer Hagg, a senior from Skovde, Sweden, majoring in electrical engineering technology received the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete award for the winter sports season.

The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) is a NCAA Division I college athletic conference whose members are located in East Coast states from Massachusetts to Georgia. Most of its members are public universities, with five in Virginia alone, and the conference is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. On the playing field, the CAA has produced 16 national team champions in five different sports, 33 individual national champions, 11 national coaches of the year, 11 national players of the year and 12 Honda Award winners.

The CAA honors one athlete in each of its 22 championship sports. Nominees must be a starter or important reserve on his or her university athletic team. Academically, the student must meet a minimum cumulative grade point average requirement of 3.25.

Hagg is a three-time recipient of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award and is a Dean's List student. He placed 16th in the 200 freestyle at the 2011 CAA Championship and swam the anchor leg on the Monarchs' fifth-place 800 freestyle relay team. Hagg also finished 18th in the 500 freestyle and 19th in the 1650 freestyle at the conference meet.

Hagg has twice earned All-CAA honors in the 800 free relay and was a member of the Monarchs squad that set a school record in the event in 2009.
