ODU Police Department to Host Self-Defense Seminar for Women
The Old Dominion University Police Department will host a free Rape and Aggression Defense (RAD) seminar from 4:30-7:30 p.m. July 25-28 in the Cape Charles/Isle of Wight Room of Webb Center. Free and open to faculty, staff and students, the seminar is for women only and requires advance registration.
The RAD program will include demonstrations of a variety of self-defense tactics and techniques, and offer hands-on defense training rather than martial arts instruction. The four-session course teaches lessons on awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance.
"We are going to provide the ODU community with a variety of tips and tricks for self defense," said ODU Officer Tommy Evans, who, along with officers Anthony Cook and Andrea Pate, is coordinating the seminar. "This is a great resource for our community and we hope to see as many people as possible there."
To register, call 683-4000 by Sunday, July 24.
