Three Faculty Members Receive Teaching with Technology Awards

Three faculty members were named recipients of the Teaching with Technology Awards - Ali Ardalan, David Basco and Steve Hsiung - at the Faculty Awards and Retirement Dinner on May 3. A one-time award of $1,500 will be provided to each recipient's department to support technology in teaching.

Ardalan joined Old Dominion as an assistant professor in 1983. In his time with the university, he has empowered the information systems faculty to improve the IS curriculum and increase enrollments. His field of expertise is operations and production management, and he has been the director of admissions to the B.S. in business administration program since 2002.

Basco has been a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the university since 1987 and serves as director of the Coastal Engineering Center. He has worked on process-based models of barrier island breaching, as well as the development of a Coastal Storm Impulse scale for the combined effects of storm surge, waves and storm duration.

Hsiung is an associate professor of electrical engineering technology. Currently, he is working on a National Science Foundation project to design and develop a PIC training system and a series of session courses for microcontroller-related curricula that are applicable in active distance learning implementations.
