Spring Homearama Pays Homage to ODU
At least one Homearama home will be awash in blue and gray - figuratively at least. That's because The ODU House celebrates Old Dominion University - from its sports teams and its award-winning mascot to its academic programs, including its entry in a national solar decathlon competition for green building engineering.
It's one of nine fully furnished and landscaped showcase homes on display May 28-June 12, in Tidewater Builders Association's Spring Homearama in the Virginia Beach community of Eagle's Nest.
The home is being built by Ainslie Group/Cohen Homes, Virginia Beach. One of the company's principals - Jeff Ainslie - is a proud ODU alum and a major benefactor of the football program.
He and his partners, brother John and custom builder Ken Cohen, will pay tribute to the ODU sports teams in the home's "man cave." That's where a wide screen television will display ODU sports highlights and furnishing and décor will be inviting for ODU fans of all ages - women included.
The 4,000-square-foot classic traditional home, with six bedrooms and four baths, offers plenty of space to celebrate ODU. ODU product placements also will be part of the home's staging, including ODU wine, peanuts, coffee, glasses, mugs, pillows and jerseys. Photographs from ODU will tastefully decorate some of the walls.
A special ODU celebration is planned for Thursday, June 2, when fans can meet coaches, cheerleaders will perform and host children's activities, and Big Blue, the famous mascot will sign autographs and pose for photos. A special $2 discount will be offered that day to ODU staff, students and faculty with identification or anyone wearing ODU gear.
The event also features an Idea Marketplace with more than 150 exhibits showcasing housing-related products and services and a variety of workshops and entertainment.
Homearama is open to the public May 28-June 12, noon until 9 p.m. Ticket sales will stop one hour before closing. General admission is $10. Active duty and retired military guests and seniors (62 or better) get a $2 discount Monday-Thursday.
