Four Honored With Advising Awards
Three administrators and one instructional faculty member received advising awards, a new awards category, at the Faculty Awards and Retirement Dinner on May 3. All are graduates of the first cohort in the Master Advisor Certificate program.
Advisor of the Year Award
Morgan Morrison has served as a University College Success advisor to the College of Arts and Letters since starting at ODU in 2008. Prior to this position, she earned an M.S.Ed. in higher education administration from ODU (2008) and a B.S. in sociology from Longwood University (2004).
Advisor of the Year - Primary Role Award
Marena Hill-Bartos has been employed at ODU for nine years and currently is the site director at the Richmond site. She earned a B.A. in political studies from the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, and an M.A. in public administration from Bowie State University while overseas in Rota, Spain.
Faculty Advisor of the Year Award
Jennifer Younkin, a senior lecture of psychology, is the chief departmental advisor and lecturer in the Department of Psychology. She also serves as the faculty advisor for the undergraduate organizations Association of Psychology Students and Psi Chi. Her role in the department is advising psychology majors and minors, working with undergraduates in the psychology clubs and teaching undergraduate courses, including distance learning courses, primarily in the areas of personality, psychology and the law, and psychology of women. She earned a master's degree in psychology from ODU.
Advising Administrator of the Year
Kim Herbert is the director of advising for the College of Sciences. She received a bachelor's degree in communication from Radford University and a master's in public communication from American University. She has been at ODU for four years.
