STUDENT PAPERS RECEIVE ACCOLADES BY AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF AERONAUTICS AND ASTRONAUTICS
Three BCET students traveled to the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, VA, for the 2011 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Region I (Mid-Atlantic) Student Paper Competition, April 8/9th. This conference is hosted to showcase the research conducted by the brightest Aerospace students from mid-Atlantic colleges and universities, as they compete for prizes and the chance to present at a national AIAA conference.
Students compete in categories ranging from Undergraduate, Master's, Team and Community Outreach.
Emrah Cinar, a Masters candidate in Aerospace Engineering participating in ODU's joint degree program with the Turkish Air Force Academy (TAFA), took third place in the graduate division for a paper "Boundary Layer Measurements Related to Wind Tunnel Testing of Riblets". Ertac Olgun, also a TAFA student and a Master's candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering, presented "Investigation and Comparison of Proportional Navigation Guidance and Beam Rider Guidance". In the undergraduate category, Joshua Laub, a Senior in the Mechanical Engineering program, presented "Liquid Methane/Oxygen Martian Ascent Vehicle Rocket Motor Design Study".
