AWARDS
STEVE BELL, executive director of international programs, a grant from the Fulbright International Education Administrators Program for a professional development experience in Japan. The visit will take him to the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka from June 10 to July 2.
JENNIFER DEL CORSO, adjunct, counseling and human services, a scholarship to attend the American Counseling Association conference in New Orleans in March 2011 from the National Employment Counseling Association, for her outstanding program proposal for the convention.
ANN GRANDY, executive director, ODU Community Development Corp., the 2011 Women of Courage, Confidence, and Character Award from the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast. The honor recognizes women who set a powerful example of leadership, resourcefulness and success to inspire young girls to aim for excellence. The award reflects the Girl Scout mission statement: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

ANDREAS TOLK, associate professor of engineering management, and Lakhmi Jain, editors, "Intelligence-based Systems Engineering," for Series: Intelligent Systems Reference Library, Vol. 10 (Springer, Heidelberg). Tolk also co-wrote a chapter, with KEVIN ADAMS, principal research scientist, ODU's National Centers for System of Systems Engineering, and CHUCK KEATING, professor of engineering management, "Towards Intelligence-based Systems Engineering and System of Systems Engineering."
EXHIBITIONS
RICHARD NICKEL, associate professor of art and program director of ceramics and art education, juried into "Beyond the Brickyard" at the Archie Bray Art Center in Helena, Mont. His work is titled "Songs For Children, 2009." The third annual juried exhibition ran Jan. 29 to April 2.

JIM BLANDO, assistant professor of community and environmental health, an invited presentation by the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine to update the Emergency Preparedness Panel on medical countermeasures at the request of the assistant secretary of health and human services. He gave his presentation Feb. 28 in Washington, D.C.
