ONE DEPARTMENT,TWO ASME FELLOWS

After the close of World War I, President Herbert Hoover and a group of engineer associates worked tirelessly towards the recovery of the nation. This work did not go unnoticed as a donor named Conrad N. Lauer created a fund in support of a gold medal to recognize such outstanding civic and humanitarian acts within in engineering and the sciences. Herbert Hoover became the first individual recognized by what would become the first American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) award.

Today, ASME boasts a number of awards and honors, the most prestigious being the awarding of Fellow Grade. Fellow Grade is the highest elected grade of membership within ASME, the attainment which recognizes exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession.

In 2011, two faculty members of the Mechanical and Aerospace department of BCET were selected as ASME Fellows. Dr. Ali Beskok and Dr. Ayodeji Demuren now joined this small league of extraordinary engineering professionals. In total, only 3,000 members have attained the well-respected grade of Fellow.

Professor Ayodeji Demuren has been with BCET since 1990. Dr. Ali Beskok is the Batten Professor of Computational Engineering and has been with the BCET since 2007.
