ODU Weather Safety Tip

With the strong line of storms producing tornadoes that have moved across the country this week, Old Dominion University reminds the campus community of the following safety tips in the unlikely event a tornado is in the vicinity.

If the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for the area around ODU, the University will activate the emergency alert system, which will include the outdoor weather sirens, text messages, phone calls and email alerts.

In a tornado, students, employees and visitors should seek shelter in a windowless interior room (closet, bathroom, interior hall) on the lowest level of a building (a basement, for those buildings that have one). Do not leave these locations until you hear the all-clear sirens and receive the all-clear messages from the ODU alert system.

All members of the campus community are encouraged to review tornado preparedness plans at www.vaemergency.com.
