Two ODU Professors on 'With Good Reason' This Week
Two Old Dominion University professors will be guests on the Thursday, March 10, edition of the radio show "With Good Reason." It will air at 12:30 p.m. on WHRV-FM, 89.5.
Michael Seiler, professor of finance and Robert M. Stanton Chair of Real Estate and Economic Development, will speak on foreclosure contagion, a theory he developed in tandem with Andy Collins, an assistant professor of modeling and simulation engineering at ODU's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center.
On the same program, Larry Atkinson, the Samuel and Fay Slover Professor of Oceanography at ODU, will speak about the issue of rising seas, and how they will affect low-lying communities, like Hampton Roads, worldwide.
The show is broadcast on different days around the state. The Seiler and Atkinson interviews may be heard also at http://withgoodreasonradio.org/2011/03/the-foreclosure-contagion/.
Seiler and Collins have created a "Foreclosure Contagion Model," which uses economic forecasting as well as modeling and simulation to determine what effect homeowners who willfully walk away from their mortgage have on the overall housing economy.
Atkinson is leading the ODU Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative, exploring how changing conditions might affect issues involving the environment, the economy and politics. Of special interest to the initiative researchers are adaptation strategies for urban areas facing the threat of rising seas.
"With Good Reason" is produced for the Virginia Higher Education Broadcasting Consortium by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and is broadcast in partnership with public radio stations in Virginia and Washington, D.C.
