ODU Poet-in-Residence to Give Reading March 17 at Bookstore
Old Dominion University visiting poet-in-residence Kristin Naca, the author of "Bird Eating Bird," will give a poetry reading and book signing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, in the University Village Bookstore.
Her visit will also include a craft talk, entitled "The Secret Tradition: How Translation Revolutionized 20th Century Poetry," Wednesday, March 16 in room 9024 of Batten Arts and Letters.
Her book, published by Harper Collins, was a winner of the 2008 National Poetry Series mtvU Prize, as selected by Pulitzer Prize winner Yusef Komunyakaa.
Naca's poems have been described as simultaneously playful and serious. They explore the richness of her cultural and linguistic heritage, which spans the globe from Mexico to the Philippines.
Naca, who writes in both Spanish and English, describes her work as an exploration of her own identity. She currently teaches Asian American and Latino poetry and creative writing at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minn.
