ODU Percussion Ensemble to Perform 'A History of Jazz' April 2

ODU Percussion Ensemble to Perform 'A History of Jazz' in Free Concert April 2 Old Dominion University's Percussion Ensemble, directed by David Walker, will present "A History of Jazz" with guest soloist Reid Stockdill on vibraphone at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. The program is free and open to the public.

The ensemble will chart the history of jazz on percussion instruments, paying tribute to African music, ragtime, Broadway, swing, bebop, Afro-Cuban, cool jazz and fusion through works by Michael Udow, Louis Gottschalk, Nathan Daughtry, Milt Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and John Williams.

Stockdill, a native of Minnesota, joined the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band at Langley Air Force Base in 2005. He holds an associate degree from Palm Beach Community College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University. Throughout his career, he has studied under music greats Sy Pryweller, Keith Aleo, Chuck Redd and Alan Abel. Past performances include appearances with the Virginia Symphony, Mannheim Steamroller, Palm Beach Symphony, Dinah Shore and Rosemary Clooney.
