INTERNATIONAL EXPERT ON CIVIL ENGINEERING, DR. ISAO ISHIBASHI, EXPLAINS VARIED BEHAVIOR OF SOILS THROUGH MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY
Soil Mechanics Fundamentals, the latest book by Isao Ishibashi, Graduate Program Director, CEE, published in December, 2010, is co-authored by Hemanta Hazarika, a professor of Kyushu University at Fukuoka, Japan, who has come up with two novel earthquake resistant techniques advocating the use of recycled tires with sand and cement to minimize impact of severe earthquakes on buildings. Hazarika said using recycled tires would stop people from dumping old tires on vacant plots of land in the countryside and would also support an industry as buyers, sellers and manufacturers of recycled tires could gain financially. Based on the authors more than 25 years of teaching soil mechanics to engineering students, Soil Mechanics Fundamentals presents a comprehensive introduction to soil mechanics, with emphasis on the engineering significance of what soil is, how it behaves, and why it behaves that way. With this text, engineering professionals as well as students can confidently determine logical and innovative solutions to challenging situations.
