Gilbert Yochum Named Dean of ODU's College of Business and Public Administration

Gilbert Yochum, professor of economics and University Professor at Old Dominion University, has been named dean of the College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA) effective immediately, Provost Carol Simpson announced today. The appointment followed a national search for the position, which produced three finalists who made open-forum presentations on campus recently.

Yochum has served as interim dean of the College of Business and Public Administration since August 2010.

"Dean Yochum has articulated a vision for the CBPA that stresses a healthy balance between faculty excellence in research and in teaching," said Simpson. "He has also emphasized that the quality and success of the CBPA's undergraduate, master's and doctoral students are critically important factors in the overall measure of the stature of the college."

Yochum, who joined the university faculty in 1975, has been a leader of ODU's highly-respected Economic Forecasting Project since 2000. He currently serves as a member of the Governor's Advisory Board of Economists for the commonwealth of Virginia. He has been an economic consultant to more than 50 companies and government agencies and has provided professional testimony before both state and federal government commissions.

He is the author or co-author of more than 80 professional journal publications and research monographs. In addition to citations in professional journals, Yochum's work has been cited publicly in more than 130 newspapers, magazines and wire reports throughout the country, including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, the Dow Jones Newswires, Associated Press and USA Today.
