Former Board of Visitors Member Sybil Walker Dies

Sybil Moore Walker, a former member of the Old Dominion University Board of Visitors, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011. A Norfolk resident, she was 85.

Walker, who served on the ODU board from 1990-94, was the wife of the late state Sen. Stanley Clay Walker. Survivors include her daughters, Susan Walker Meslang and Elizabeth Troy Walker; her grandchildren, Stanley Clay Walker II and Anne Christine Meslang; and her great-grandson, Stanley Clay Walker III.

Walker was an independent woman who offered direction with warmth, and most enjoyed doting on her youngest family members. Throughout her life, she was dedicated to bettering her community and actively involved in many organizations. Most recently, she was a member of the Great Bridge chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, First United Methodist Church, Norfolk, and Norfolk Garden Club. She also served on the boards of the Chrysler Museum of Art and Lake Taylor Hospital.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at First United Methodist Church, Norfolk, with the Rev. John F. Shappell officiating. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
