Gerald Baliles, director of the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia and former governor of Virginia, will receive the Economics Club of Hampton Roads' fourth annual Economic Impact Award on March 2. In addition to the award ceremony, Baliles will deliver a speech, which will be followed by a reception.

The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. The talk and reception are complimentary for Economics Club members and $65 for nonmembers. Event sponsors include the Economics Club of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Southern and Old Dominion University's College of Business and Public Administration. Table sponsorships are available for $750. As a partner at the law firm of Hunton and Williams, Baliles chaired several national and regional entities, including the presidentially appointed Commission on Airline Competitiveness, the Southern States Energy Board, the Chesapeake Bay Blue Ribbon Panel, the Education Quality Committee of the Southern Regional Education Board, the AGB Commission on Academic Presidency and the AGB Commission on the State of the Presidency in Higher Education.

He serves on the boards of Altria, Norfolk Southern and the Council on the Study of the Presidency and Congress.

The Economics Club of Hampton Roads' Economic Impact Award was created to recognize those who have made a significant contribution to the development and practice of sound economic and financial policy.
