Auditions for Hampton Roads Youth Wind Ensemble to be Held Feb. 12 and 15
The Community Music Division of Old Dominion University has announced audition dates for the Hampton Roads Youth Wind Ensemble (HRYWE) for Saturday, Feb. 12 and Tuesday, Feb. 15.Woodwind, brass and percussion students in grades 8 through 12 who are accepted will meet weekly on the ODU campus and perform a final concert at University Theatre in June.
HRYWE, formed in 1999 and sponsored by ODU's Community Music Division, is a community band for young people, grades 8 through 12, who are serious about making music. Students meet weekly over a two-month period to prepare a challenging program of contemporary band literature.
"The HRYWE experience fosters a professional work ethic and a spirit of excellence, allowing students to further their personal, professional and musical growth," said founding wind ensemble director Victor Hugo. "Students incorporate these skills into their lives and enhance their respective school band programs, making HRYWE a source of community pride, celebrating the talent and spirit of the youth in Hampton Roads."
The guest director for 2011 is Dr. Alexander Trevino, director of the Old Dominion University Marching Monarchs Band.
