APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS
INGO HEIDBRINK, professor of history (maritime history), appointed to conference chair and chair of the Program Committee for the 2011 annual conference of the North American Society for Oceanic History to be held at Old Dominion University.
ANNA JENG, associate professor of community and environmental health, invited by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences/NIH to serve as an ad hoc advisory member. The advisory group will provide recommendation to NIEHS on how to assess the state of the science in the field and identify the research gaps in air quality and brain health.
MELVIN WILLIAMS, professor and eminent scholar emeritus of exercise science, physical education and recreation, appointed to a two-year term on the EAS Scientific Advisory Board of Abbott Nutrition. The EAS division focuses on sports nutrition products.

GARRETT MCAULIFFE, University Professor of counselor education, and Karen Eriksen, founder and CEO of the Eriksen Institute for Ethics, "Handbook of Counselor Preparation: Constructivist, Developmental, and Experiential Approaches" (Sage Publications).
PAPERS/PRESENTATIONS
GIANLUCA DELEO, assistant professor, and SCOTT SECHRIST, associate professor, medical laboratory and radiation sciences, "Games for Team Training" at the 2010 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in Orlando, Fla. It was presented as part of the session on the validity and immersiveness of virtual world training.
INGO HEIDBRINK, professor of history (maritime history), a paper, "Pride and Prejudice: Experiences of a Multi-year Historical Research Project on German Distant Water Fisheries" at the Oceans Past III conference at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland (in the context of the History of Marine Animals Population Project). Also, a lecture, "The Oceans - Historical Dimensions," given for the Bremen International Graduate School for Marine Sciences - Global Change in the Marine Realm, in Bremen, Germany.
ALICE JONES, director of student and alumni programs in the College of Arts and Letters for the Career Management Center, and Teresa Simpson, Lamar University, a pre-conference workshop, "Nuts and Bolts for New Career Services Professionals," at the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers Annual Conference in Dallas. The session included information on meeting the needs of constituent groups and identifying and utilizing resources as well as marketing strategies, relationship development and professional ethics and behaviors.

DANIEL DAUER, professor and eminent scholar of biological sciences, and three co-authors, "Medium- and Long-term Recovery of Estuarine and Coastal Ecosystems: Patterns, Rates and Restoration Effectiveness" in a recent issue of the journal Estuarine and Coastal Science. It was also selected for inclusion in Science for Environment Policy, the European Commission's environmental news service for policymakers, which is distributed to more than 11,000 subscribers worldwide. Science for Environment Policy provides access to the latest policy-relevant scientific research.
