Parking Garage Restrictions Announced for Jan. 19

With Old Dominion University's men's basketball game Wednesday, Jan. 19, against first-place James Madison University sold out, ODU Parking and Transportation Services and Ted Constant Convocation Center's management agency, Global Spectrum, have announced some parking restrictions near the arena.

These restrictions will go into effect at 6 a.m. on game day due to the difficulty of removing cars midday from lots that are needed for arena spectators.

The first two levels of Garage C, located on the south side of the Constant Center (behind the McDonald's on Hampton Boulevard), will close at 6 a.m. for parking for Big Blue Club members.

Levels two and three of Garage D, located on the north side of the Constant Center (behind the SpringHill Suites Marriott on Hampton Boulevard), will be blocked off for VIP parking after 6 a.m. Garage D will also be made "exit only" at 3 p.m. No one will be able to park in that garage except for guests coming to the basketball game.

After garages C and D are full, basketball spectators will be directed to park in garages A and B, the WHRO parking lot and Lot 43 (on Powhatan Avenue across from the Powhatan Sports Complex). A shuttle bus will be available to take guests from overflow parking to the Constant Center.

Due to the expected size of the crowd, students with afternoon and evening classes are urged to park in garages A, B and E.

JMU comes into Wednesday's showdown with the Monarchs with a record of 14-3, and is currently receiving Top 25 votes in both national polls. Madison is tied with Hofstra and Virginia Commonwealth at 5-1 for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Old Dominion is 4-2, but just handed Hofstra its first conference defeat, and plays both JMU and VCU at home this week. The VCU game will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22. It is also sold out.
