Outstanding College Scholars Honored; Most Inspirational Faculty Members Named

Old Dominion University honored six graduates as Alumni Association Outstanding College Scholars at the Dec. 19 commencement exercises.

English major Heather Wood, of Chesapeake, who had a 4.0 cumulative GPA in the College of Arts and Letters, was named the overall Outstanding University Scholar. The following is a list of the six colleges' top scholars, including each student's most inspirational faculty member (if named).

• Arts and Letters - Heather Wood, of Virginia Beach; English, 4.0; December graduate; Janis Smith, instructor of English

• Business ad Public Administration - Manuela Johnson, of Richmond, Va.; international business, 3.97; August graduate; Mohammad Najand, professor of finance

• Education - Elizabeth Bickel, of Virginia Beach; human services 4.0; December graduate; Barry Smith, director of the Tri-Cities Center

• Engineering and Technology - Michael Dominice, of Yorktown; computer engineering, 3.91; December graduate; Lee Belfore II, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering

• Health Sciences - Brandi Trounce, of Virginia Beach; nursing, 4.0; August graduate

• Sciences - Tracy Thornton, of Virginia Beach; ocean and earth sciences, 4.0; December graduate; Richard Whittecar, associate professor of ocean, earth and atmospheric sciences.
