ODU to Host Annual 'Her Melody Lingers On.'
Old Dominion University will hold the fourth annual "Her Melody Lingers On" concert to benefit the Claire Cucchiari-Loring Memorial Scholarship at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The scholarship, which was established in memory of the former Old Dominion student, benefits a deserving student in the ODU Jazz Choir. The concert will feature performances by ODU music professor John Toomey, and local musicians Karl Werne & Friends, Eddie Williams, Curtis Eley, Dan Martier and Laura Martier.
Cucchiari-Loring was a music student at ODU when she was killed by her estranged boyfriend in 2006. The annual concert honors her legacy and celebrates her talent as a young artist, beloved by friends and family.
"Through this program, ODU can provide exceptional student scholarships in music and continue to honor Claire's legacy at our university," said Fred Bayersdorfer, assistant dean for the arts in the College of Arts and Letters. "The event also provides us with an opportunity to remind our students of the dangers of domestic violence and to offer resources about the topic."
Concert tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at http://oduartstix.com or by calling the box office at 683-5305.
All proceeds and charitable donations will go to the Cucchiari-Loring Scholarship. Checks, made payable to the ODU Educational Foundation (with note: "Cucchiari-Loring Scholarship"), should be sent to the Office of Development, 4417 Monarch Way, 4th Floor, Norfolk, VA 23529.
