ODU Honors Its SCHEV Award Nominees at Luncheon

Old Dominion University honored its nominees for the 2011 Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards program at a luncheon Jan. 18 in Webb Center.

Administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and funded by a grant from the Dominion Foundation, the program will announce statewide winners on Jan. 26 for awards of $5,000 each.

At the luncheon, President John R. Broderick said it was an honor to recognize ODU's "stellar and superb teaching and research faculty."

"This is the kind of day that makes working here special, because we get to say thank you," he told the group.

Provost Carol Simpson, who said the occasion was a celebration of excellence in teaching and research, added, "The work that you all are doing is truly remarkable."

David Metzger, who heads up the annual SCHEV nomination process for ODU, announced that all of the university's nominees will receive an account of $500 to support their scholarship.

ODU's nine nominees are: Mark Butler, professor of biological sciences; Jie Chen, professor of political science and geography; Karen Crum, assistant professor of educational foundations and leadership; Annette Finley-Croswhite, professor of history; Chuck Keating, professor of engineering management; Ling Li, professor of MIS/decision sciences; Malcolm Scully, assistant professor of ocean, earth and atmospheric sciences; Lynne Tolle, professor of dental hygiene; and Lepsha Vuskovic, professor and eminent scholar of physics.
