ODU Profs Receive Award for Distance Learning Research Paper

M'hammed Abdous, the Old Dominion University assistant vice president for teaching and learning with technology, and Wu He, instructional technology specialist and adjunct professor of Information Technology at ODU's Center for Learning Technologies, have received the 2010 Research Paper Award from the National University Telecommunications Network (NUTN).

The award-winning paper, titled "Using Text Mining to Uncover Students' Technology-Related Problems in Live Video Streaming," was recognized by the NUTN judging panel as "a significant contribution to the field" and "innovative in its strategy." The paper's primary focus was on the use of text mining to provide a practical way to support distance students and distance teaching faculty.

Abdous and He will deliver a video presentation at NUTN's annual conference in September in Colorado Springs. The presentation will highlight ODU's video streaming, a method of delivering live courses to students via video on any computer with access to the internet.

The paper was first published in the British Journal of Educational Technology in 2009.

NUTN is a networking and professional development organization for the advancement of teaching and learning.
