ODU Education Faculty Members Are Featured Speakers at Italian Conference on Counseling Practice

Two faculty members from Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education were featured speakers at a bilateral conference in Pesaro, Italy, "Counseling Practice in Italy and the United States," on May 29.

Ted Remley, professor and Batten Endowed Chair of the Department of Counseling and Human Services, gave a talk titled "Ethical and Deontology Issues in the Counselor Profession," while Vivian McCollum, an associate professor in the Counseling Graduate Program, spoke about the preparation of counselors, and about multicultural counseling and school counseling in general, in the United States.

The conference, which addressed ethics, work methodologies and professional training, was organized by Komide Professional Counseling School in Pesaro in collaboration with ODU.

Davide Mariotti, a counselor educator from Komide who visited ODU in January, organized the conference. It was endorsed by ODU, Italy's Le Marche province, the Italian Association of Counseling, the International Registry of Counselling Programs and the Federazione delle Associazione Italiane di Psicoterapia.

Counselors and counselor educators from throughout Italy attended. Luca Bartolucci, the president of Le Marche, whose post is similar to that of a U.S. governor, also attended the conference and welcomed participants.
