Gilbert Yochum Named Interim Dean of College of Business and Public Administration

Gilbert Yochum, professor of economics and University Professor at Old Dominion University, has been appointed interim dean of the College of Business and Public Administration, beginning July 25, announced Provost Carol Simpson.

The current dean, Nancy Bagranoff, recently announced she had accepted a position at the University of Richmond.

Yochum, who joined the university in 1975, is the director of ODU's Economic Forecasting Project. He currently serves as a member of the Governor's Advisory Board of Economists for the commonwealth of Virginia. He has been an economic consultant to more than 50 companies and government agencies and has provided professional testimony before both federal and state government commissions.

He is author or co-author of more than 80 professional journal publications and research monographs. In addition to citations in professional journals, Yochum's work has been cited publicly in more than 130 newspaper, magazine and wire reports throughout the country, including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, the Dow Jones Newswires, Associated Press and USA Today.

The university will work with an external search agency to identify and recruit candidates for the position of dean of the business college, Simpson said. It is anticipated that a search committee will be formed in the next three weeks and advertising for the position will begin later this summer. The new dean is expected to begin in summer 2011.
