BATTEN COLLEGE YEAR-END ENGINEERING AWARDS HANDED OUT TO FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS
Five staff and faculty members of ODU's Batten College of Engineering and Technology are the recipients of the 2010 Batten College Excellence Awards.
Dean Oktay Baysal presented the award-winners with their honor at the annual College Awards Dinner on May 7. The 2009-10 Batten College of Engineering and Technology Student Awards were presented at the same dinner.
The Excellence Award in Teaching was given to Dimitrie Popescu, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The Excellence Award in Research was awarded to Alok Verma, Ray Ferrari professor in Engineering Technology, and director of ODU's Lean Institute, in particular for his research into science, technology, engineering and math instruction in the field of shipbuilding and marine technology. The Excellence Award in Student Advising was given to Mujde Erten-Unal, associate professor in ODU's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and director of the university's Sustainable Development Institute.
The Excellence Award in Industry Partnering went to Thomas Alberts, professor of aerospace engineering, for his work with ODU's Magnetic Levitation research project. The Excellence Award in Support Operations was given to Romina Samson.
Sixteen students of the Batten College received awards at the dinner.The J. Harold Lampe Award went to graduate student John Whitelaw, who also won the Faculty Award for Environmental Engineering.
Other double winners include Ryan Hill, who won the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence in Engineering, and the Faculty Award in Civil Engineering; and Bryan Mausteller, who won the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence in Engineering Technology, and was the College's Alumni Award recipient.
The Faculty Award in Computer Engineering was presented to Tristan Merrill. The Faculty Award in Electrical Engineering was given to Tiara Jones. The Faculty Award in Mechanical Engineering was awarded to Michael Porter. The Faculty Award in Civil Engineering Technology went to James Jackson.
The Faculty Award in Electrical Engineering Technology was claimed by Albert Blaisdell. The Faculty Award in Mechanical Engineering Technology was won by Tammy Spitzer. Mausteller shared the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence in Engineering Technology with Eugene Bricker.
The Lee M. Klinefelter Award for Overall Excellence in Engineering Technology was given to Ifeoluwa Ayeni. Joint winners shared the Faculty Award in Aerospace Engineering, Ashraf Omran and Mohammed Ghazy. Paul Garvey won the Faculty Award in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering. The Faculty Award in Modeling and Simulation was claimed by Saikou Diallo. And the Faculty Award in Naval Science was won by Bradley Sanders."Please join me in congratulating each of these outstanding members of our Batten College of Engineering and Technology team and outstanding students," Baysal said.
