Student Flu Clinic at ODU Tuesday, March 2
A free H1N1 flu vaccine clinic will be held for ODU students on Tuesday, March 2, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Student Health Service Conference Room in Webb Center.
No appointment is necessary. H1N1 vaccinations will be administered free of charge. Students must bring a valid Old Dominion University ID with them to the clinic, along with a completed screening form, available here: http://studentaffairs.odu.edu/healthservices/forms/H1N1_Influenza_Consent.pdf.
The clinic may end early due to a limited supply of vaccine.
Individuals who are ill with a temperature of 100 degrees or more should wait to get the vaccine until after the fever is gone.
Students aged 24 or younger are considered to be in priority groups, and strongly encouraged to get vaccinated now. Priority candidates for vaccination also include pregnant women, caregivers of infants less than 6 months of age, healthcare and emergency personnel, and those with chronic medical conditions such as:
- Chronic heart disease
- Chronic asthma or other lung disease
- Diabetes mellitus
- Chronic kidney or liver disease
- Neurologic conditions (e.g. multiple sclerosis seizure disorder)
- Impaired immune system (e.g. cancer, organ transplant, HIV or medication that suppress the immune system)
- Hematologic conditions (blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia)
If you believe you may have already had H1N1 influenza, vaccination is still advised since you cannot be absolutely certain that you had H1N1. The vaccination will provide greater protection from future exposure. Protecting yourself from the H1N1 flu is important not only for your health, but also for the health of your friends and family.
