ODU's College of Business and Public Administration to Host Information Session on New Global Executive MBA Program
Old Dominion University's College of Business and Public Administration will host an information session for its new global executive M.B.A. program on Tuesday, Feb. 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Westin Hotel at Virginia Beach Town Center in Virginia Beach.
ODU's unique 12-month Global Executive M.B.A. (GEMBA) program is specifically tailored to help busyexecutives create a global mindset; in other words, to think globally and act locally. To that end, the program is structured in a compressed cycle that includes six intensive one-week residential periods (including two abroad), with the remaining coursework being performed during scheduled distance learning sessions.
The Global Executive M.B.A. program gives executive students a comprehensive understanding of doing business in emerging markets, teaches key concepts that can be applied to real-life problems in their own organizations, emphasizes the global business perspective with overseas instruction and offers one-on-one executive coaching.
According to Nancy Bagranoff, the dean of ODU's College of Business and Public Administration, the GEMBA program offers academically rigorous coursework with real-world applications.
"Business doesn't happen in functional silos," said Bagranoff."In ODU's GEMBA, subjects are integrated and what you learn in the classroom one day can be applied in your work environment the next. Problems you cope with at the office provide great fodder for discussion and solutions in our classrooms. This program gives executive students what they want in an M.B.A., including strategic and leadership skills and quality instruction from faculty who are highly respected both nationally and internationally."
While the program consists of 45 credit hours and offers all of the traditional M.B.A. curricula, including marketing, strategy and organizational behavior, GEMBA features some essential differences.Compared to the more traditional 18- to 24-month programs, ODU's program distills the M.B.A. down to its essence. Using an integrated approach, the program accelerates the learning process by eliminating repetition and redundancy in coursework. In addition, GEMBA is structured around the executive student's convenience and is not limited to weekends like more traditional executive M.B.A. programs.
