ODU Will Have a Delayed Opening on Tuesday

Due to persistent icy conditions on some area roadways, Old Dominion University, including the Peninsula, Tri-Cities and Virginia Beach Higher Education Centers, will have a delayed opening on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Offices will open and classes will begin at 11 a.m. Essential personnel should check with their supervisors to determine their need to report to work earlier. Continue to monitor this site for updates.

Old Dominion University students, faculty and staff are reminded that any campus-wide delays or closings will be announced through the university's ODU Alerts messaging system, web site and e-mail, and local media outlets. Sign up for ODU Alerts at https://www.odu.edu/apps/alerts/.

Notices and Advisories

  • The Facilities Management crews have been working through the weekend to remove snow and ice from the major campus pedestrian walkways and building entrances. Due to the amount of snow and ice and low temperatures there are some walkways and approaches to building entrances that have thick ice and have not yet been cleared. These areas are marked with caution tape to close them off. Campus buildings are accessible via at least one major pedestrian walkway and building entrance. We ask the campus community to observe the closed areas and use the areas that are open. The Facilities Management staff will continue to work hard to open up all access points. We ask everyone to use extreme caution as you move around the campus. Thank you for your cooperation.

The following local media outlets will carry information about delays or closings: television stations WTKR-TV 3, WAVY-TV 10, WVEC-TV 13, and radio stations WHRV-FM 89.5 and WHRO-FM 90.3. Students can check Access TV (channel 37.1) for updates on available services.

For campus emergencies, call the ODU Police Department at 683-4000.
