Four Finalists To Be Interviewed for VMASC Executive Director Position
Interviews start this week for the four finalists for the position of executive director of Old Dominion University's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC).
John Sokolowski, interim executive director at VMASC, is being interviewed today, Monday, Feb. 15, from 1:45-2:30 p.m. in the E.V. Williams Engineering and Computational Sciences Building, ECSB Theatre, room 1202.
Sokolowski, the first recipient of a doctorate in modeling and simulation engineering from ODU, was previously director of research and senior research scientist at VMASC, and head of the Modeling and Simulation Division of the U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM).
Stephen Moore, principal, Booz Allen Hamilton, will be interviewed from 11-11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the ECSB Theatre.
Previously, Moore was deputy of the Joint Training Analysis and Simulation Center of USJFCOM, and a program manager with the National Imagery and Mapping Agency.
Thomas Prudhomme, senior research scientist, Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will be interviewed from 2:15-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Rectors Room of Webb Center.
Prudhomme was formerly the senior associate director of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at UIUC, and associate vice chancellor for sponsored research and technology programs at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
Anshuman Razdan, director of the Advanced Technology Innovation Center and the Image and 3D Exploitation and Analysis Lab at Arizona State University, will be interviewed from 2:15-3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, in the ECSB Theatre.
Razdan was previously the director of the Decision Theater and PRISM (Partnership for Research in Spatial Modeling), also at Arizona State.
The appointment of the new executive director comes at a pivotal time for VMASC and for Old Dominion. Last spring, the university announced the creation of an undergraduate degree in modeling and simulation, making ODU the only school in the United States to offer a complete advanced education in modeling and simulation engineering.
In December, ODU's Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology announced the creation of a stand-alone Department of Modeling, Visualization and Simulation Engineering, appointing Professor Roland Mielke as chair.
A large research institution in the middle of Hampton Roads' burgeoning modeling and simulation cluster, ODU and VMASC will also play a key role over the next 10 years in the implementation of the region's strategic plan for modeling and simulation, Hampton Roads M&S Strategy 2020.
