Final Audition for Hampton Roads Youth Wind Ensemble To Be Held Feb. 11

The Community Music Division of Old Dominion University announces the final audition date for the Hampton Roads Youth Wind Ensemble (HRYWE) as Thursday, Feb. 11. High school wind and percussion musicians who are accepted will meet weekly on the ODU campus and perform a final concert in May.

HRYWE, formed in 1999 and sponsored by ODU's Community Music Division, is a community band for young people, grades 8 through 12, who are serious about making music. Students meet weekly over a two-month period to prepare a challenging program of contemporary band literature.

"The HRYWE experience fosters a professional work ethic and a spirit of excellence, allowing students to further their personal, professional and musical growth," said wind ensemble director Victor Hugo. "Students incorporate these skills into their lives and enhance their respective school band programs, making HRYWE a source of community pride, celebrating the talent and spirit of the youth in Hampton Roads."

To make an appointment for an audition, contact Hugo at 581-5502 or vhugo@odu.edu. For information about other programs offered by the Community Music Division, visit http://al.odu.edu/cmd or call 683-4075.
