Speaker Will Share Latest News about Ocean Monitoring Technologies
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is always looking for newfangled ways monitor the oceans, and Mark Bushnell, the speaker at a public seminar at Old Dominion University Monday, Nov. 9, is well-positioned to report on the quest.
Bushnell, who works for NOAA's Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS), will discuss new ocean-observing technologies at 3:30 p.m. in Room 3200 of the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography in Innovation Research Park Building 1.
His presentation is free and open to the public, as is a reception with refreshments that begins at 3.
CO-OPS evaluates new technologies that have the potential to support NOAA missions of environmental assessment and prediction. Bushnell will report on microwave water-level sensors, acoustic Doppler current profilers with novel transducer configurations to observe currents and waves, new data communications techniques through satellites, laser sensors for bridge clearance and visibility sensors.
