NASA Scientist to Speak on Satellite Monitoring of Marine Productivity

A NASA scientist will discuss how environmental variability affects ocean productivity on the continental shelf of the Argentine Sea at a public seminar sponsored by Old Dominion University's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO) Monday, Nov. 16.

Marina Marrari, a scientist with the Ocean Biology Processing Group at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, will speak beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Room 3200 of the CCPO facility in the Innovation Research Building 1. Her topic will be "Influence of Environmental Variability on Higher Trophic Levels: A Remote Sensing Approach."

Her presentation is free and open to the public, as is a reception with refreshments that begins at 3.

Marrari uses satellite remote sensing data in her studies of ocean productivity. Her research interests focus on marine ecology, with the main goal of understanding the physical and biological processes that influence phytoplankton and zooplankton populations, and the effects that these changes have on marine creatures higher up in the food chain.
