H1N1 Flu Shot Clinic For ODU Community To Be Held Nov. 23
An H1N1 flu vaccine shot clinic will be held for ODU students, faculty and staff from 1 to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, in the MAC Court area of the Student Recreational Center, located at Powhatan Avenue and 48th Street.
Those wishing to receive the shot should use the main entrance located on the east side of the building, closest to the Quad area, and may begin to line up at the outside entrance no earlier than 12:30 p.m.
The clinic may end early due to a limited supply of vaccine.
H1N1 vaccinations will be administered free of charge. Students, faculty and staff MUST BRING A VALID OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY ID with them to the clinic and should wear a shirt that allows the arm to be exposed easily. The vaccine is not available for dependents.
Individuals who are ill with a temperature of 100 degrees or more should wait to get the vaccine until after the fever is gone.
Students, faculty or staff who are in priority groups are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated now, including: anyone aged 24 or younger, pregnant women, caregivers of infants less than 6 months of age, healthcare and emergency personnel, and those with chronic medical conditions such as:
- Chronic heart disease
- Chronic asthma or other lung disease
- Diabetes mellitus
- Chronic kidney or liver disease
- Neurologic conditions (e.g. multiple sclerosis seizure disorder)
- Impaired immune system (e.g. cancer, organ transplant, HIV or medication that suppress the immune system)
- Hematologic conditions (blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia)
If you believe you may have already had H1N1 influenza, vaccination is still advised since you cannot be absolutely certain that you had H1N1. The vaccination will provide greater protection from future exposure. Protecting yourself from the H1N1 flu is important not only for your health, but also for the health of your friends and family.
