President Broderick Appointed to Physicians for Peace Board

Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick has been named to the Board of Trustees for Physicians for Peace.

Broderick is one of eight new members joining the board of the Norfolk-based international non-profit organization that focuses on medical education in the developing world.

"We are pleased to welcome these members of the board during our 20th Anniversary year," said Buzz Heidt, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Physicians for Peace. "The time and dedication they will bring to our activities will be a great help in carrying out our mission in the 22 countries where we currently have programs; they share a passionate commitment to bringing international goodwill through medical education and care."

ODU's eighth president, Broderick guides the university's six colleges, more than 10 economic development and research centers, and numerous partnerships with government and business organizations and agencies. He oversees an operating budget of $441.3 million and more than 2,500 faculty and staff members. Throughout his career, Broderick has been actively engaged in numerous community and professional organizations. He also serves as a board member of the Hampton Roads Partnership, Urban League and Virginia Beach Vision, and has served for many years as a youth soccer league coach in Chesapeake.
