ODU Symphony Orchestra Concert Sunday, Oct. 18

Featuring mezzo-soprano Robynne Redmon, the Old Dominion University Symphony Orchestra (ODUSO) will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, in the atrium of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Redmon has earned international acclaim as a singer and an actress. She has performed leading roles with the major opera houses of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Berlin State Opera, Opera de Marseilles and Teatro Regio Torino. Equally at home in recital and concert, she has appeared with many orchestras around the world, including the Israel Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Virginia Symphony and Nashville Symphony.

Redmon's performance on Sunday will be dedicated to her late brother David Michael Redmon Jr.

The ODUSO, directed by Lucy Manning, performs well-known works from the standard repertoire for orchestra with an emphasis on contemporary works.

Sunday's symphony performance will include "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copland; "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" by Vaughan Williams; "Songs of a Wayfarer" by Gustav Mahler and featuring Redmon; and the first movement of "Symphony No. 1" by Beethoven.
