Former ODU Student Ben Bailey, Host of Discovery Channel game show, to perform Homecoming week

Unsuspecting citizens get in a taxi. All of a sudden lights start flashing, and they're part of a game show.

It's called "Cash Cab" and it's hosted by stand-up comedian and former Old Dominion University student Ben Bailey. The Discovery Channel show is a hit, winning a Daytime Emmy Award in 2008 for "Best Game Show."

Bailey, who attended ODU from 1987-90 and is returning to campus for ODU Homecoming activities, will receive an Honorary Alumni award at the Alumni Honors Dinner the evening of Thursday, Nov. 5, and will perform stand-up in the Ted Constant Convocation Center's Big Blue Room at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, after the ODU Lady Monarchs' exhibition game against Chowan University.

Faculty and staff are invited to watch Bailey's performance free of charge. Tickets, while quantities last, are available at the Constant Center box office. Faculty and staff can pick up two free tickets with an ODU ID.

During homecoming week, tickets will be available to students, alumni and the general public, starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 2.

According to the Discovery Channel Web site, the Cash Cab will drive you all the way to your destination and ask you general knowledge questions on the way. Contestants who answer questions correctly win cash. A third wrong answer and the occupants of the cab get booted out, no matter where they are.

If the contestants are still in the cab when they reach their destination, then can opt to bet all of their winnings, double or nothing, on a video bonus question. The question is based on a clip from Discovery's library.

"Cash Cab" is a daytime staple for Discovery Channel, airing multiple times every weekday.

A stand-up comedian for more than 10 years, Bailey has performed all over the world. He has also guest starred on many television comedies and dramas, such as ABC's "The Knights of Prosperity" and "Hope & Faith," NBC's "Law and Order SVU" and Fox's "Mad TV," as well as had a recurring role on "One Life to Live."
