Papua New Guinea Expedition is Subject of Today's Twilight Botanical Lecture

A botanical report from especially remote and exotic regions of Papua New Guinea will be featured in the next Twilight Lecture Series event sponsored by Norfolk Botanical Garden (NBG) and Old Dominion University. The lecture by Susan Pell, a researcher with Brooklyn Botanic Garden, will be today at 6 p.m. at NBG.

The public is invited to all Twilight Lecture Series presentations. For this event, admission to NBG, as well as to the lecture, is free.

Pell participated earlier this year in a botanical expedition to Papua New Guinea funded by Conservation International. Also on the expedition was Timothy Motley, the J. Robert Stiffler Distinguished Professor in Botany and Horticulture, a position that divides his time between NBG and ODU.

Discoveries that Pell and collaborating researchers will share at the Twilight Lecture will include a giant tropical rhododendron that may be new to science, as well as a Goliath butterfly the size of a dinner plate.
