ODU Family Weekend Kicks Off Sept. 25
Family Weekend 2009 gets under way Friday, Sept. 25, and will be filled with activities to acquaint campus visitors of all ages with the spirit, pride and traditions of Old Dominion University.
Registration begins Friday morning with guided tours of the Kaplan Orchid Conservatory, residence halls and Pretlow Planetarium. Open recreation will be offered all weekend at the Student Recreation Center, so that students can give their families a tour of the new state-of-the-art facility. On Friday evening, a family movie, "Up," will be featured outdoors in the new Roseann Runte Quad.
Guests are invited to a President's Brunch Saturday morning at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, hosted by ODU President John Broderick. Later that day, they can participate in pregame festivities on Kaufman Mall before heading to the student section at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium for the ODU football game against Monmouth at 6 p.m.
Head football coach Bobby Wilder has asked students and their families to wear their "12th Monarch" shirts to the game and help cheer the Monarchs on to their fourth victory.
Family Weekend is sponsored by the ODU Office of Student Activities and Leadership; there is a $30 registration fee to help defray event costs. To register, visit:
