Artist, ODU Alumna Donates Painting to University

Renowned artist Patti Meyers recently donated one of her paintings, titled "Parisian Tutu," to Old Dominion University's permanent collection. The painting is on display in the reception area of the President's Office in Koch Hall.

Meyers received a bachelor's degree in art education from ODU in 1969.

She has shown her work in numerous gallery shows, selected and two-person shows, and selected invitational juried shows.

Her work has been featured in public artwork commissions, publications, film and television.

Meyers views herself as an abstract figurative artist, and maintains an awareness of the connection between the visual arts and the performing arts when creating her pieces.

According to Meyers, "Parisian Tutu" represents the history and process of the development of 19th-century costume design. The painting features a white, wispy ballet tutu streaked with pale pastels against a deep green background.

During the presentation of her work, Meyers spoke of the role Old Dominion played in her success. "I have pride and a sense of accomplishment for what ODU provided for me and many thousands of students who came from modest backgrounds. This university was my stepping stone for the many achievements in my life," she said.
