Art Department Faculty Present Work In New Exhibit
The biennial Old Dominion University Department of Art faculty exhibition opens Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries. A reception will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
The show features recent work by full-time and adjunct faculty members, many of whom have achieved national recognition for their creative and scholarly work. Fields of expertise represented by the art department include art and architectural history, art education, and such studio areas as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, sculpture, fibers, clay and metalsmithing.
"Full-time art faculty at Old Dominion University have something seldom provided by most American universities: personal studios on campus," notes Linda McGreevy, chair of the art department.
McGreevy said that the work produced by the faculty members in these studios is frequently sent to invitational and juried exhibitions throughout the country and around the world.
"These artists, professors and colleagues have a connectivity beyond our coastal region that serves our students very well indeed, as is manifest in this exhibition," she said.
Faculty members exhibiting pieces in the new show include Diane de Beixedon, Anne Bousquet, Natalie Bray, Heather Bryant, Ken Daley, Patricia Edwards, Peter Eudenbach, Anna Velkoff Freeman, Ralph Irby, Patricia Isenhour, Elliott Jones, Jiwon Lee, Elizabeth Leeor, Clay McGlamory, Richard Nickel, Pam Ponce, Greta Pratt, John Roth, Virginia Van Horn and Nikki Webb.
The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of two recently deceased department members: Robert McCullough, associate professor of graphic design, and Carole Hubbard, visiting associate professor of art education.
"Robert and Carole influenced many students in the years they spent at ODU. Both of these artists left a legacy of creative professionalism that will be conveyed by their many students throughout decades to come," McGreevy said.
Admission to the Gordon Galleries, located at 4509 Monarch Way in the University Village, is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 683-6271.
