A. D. Kirwan, Former ODU Professor, to Speak at CCPO Seminar

A.D. Kirwan Jr., a professor at the University of Delaware and former Samuel L. and Fay M. Slover Chair of Physical Oceanography at Old Dominion University, will speak on "The Effervescent Eddy Enigma" at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at ODU's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO).

The public is invited to this free presentation of CCPO's Fall Seminar Series, which will be in room 3200 of Innovation Research Park Building 1 in the University Village. Refreshments will be served beginning at 3 p.m.

Kirwan, who was at ODU from 1987 to 1999, is the Mary A. S. Lighthipe Chair of Marine Studies at the University of Delaware. He has published 100 refereed papers and is the author of "Mother Nature's Two Laws: Ringmasters for Circus Earth" and co-editor of "Rapid Environmental Assessment and Lagrangian Analysis and Prediction of Coastal Ocean Dynamics."

His CCPO talk will focus on new research findings-at odds with earlier studies-showing that there is considerable fluid exchange between eddy cores and ambient fluid outside the eddies.
