"Tech Camp" gives teens inside look at local industries
There are sports camps, church camps, band camps, and camps that appeal to the interest of just about any kid.
But this summer at ODU, local teens who like math, science and engineering are getting their own program. And it's free!
Several rising high school juniors and seniors are taking part in a week-long summer camp at ODU called "STEM," which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
One recent field trip for the students involved a look at local port operations.
Another rising junior, Anthony Faggins, said the field trip was a unique opportunity.
"I think it's wonderful because I never had an opportunity to like actually go to the Port of Norfolk and get up close and actually see how things are done. So it's good that ODU gave me the opportunity to do this."
