ODU to host National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives July 28

Old Dominion University will open its doors to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) for their 8th Annual Youth Conference's "A Day at ODU" Tuesday, July 28.

Themed "NOBLE Youth: The Catalyst of Change," the conference seeks to prepare youth to assume leadership roles in their communities and to maximize the opportunity for youth to develop their full potential.

According to ODU Police Chief Rudy Burwell, a member of NOBLE, "Youth play an instrumental role in 21st century society. NOBLE is responsible for providing a positive environment for youth to grow and learn while responsibly progressing into adulthood."

With an expected participation of more than 200 youths ranging in age from 13-18, the NOBLE Youth Conference will feature a number of interactive workshops. Bank of America will facilitate a session stressing the importance of taking responsibility for developing and effectively managing financial resources. Tyrone Davis of the Tidewater Consortium will conduct a session on "Strategies to Scholarships" to help college-bound students maximize opportunities for financial support. The workshops will conclude with a session presented by the National Bar Association titled "The Ramification of Choices: A Mock Trial." Upon completion of the workshops, participants will utilize the knowledge learned to develop projects in their communities.

The "Day at ODU" portion of the NOBLE Youth Conference will be held 9 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. in Webb University Center.

Founded in 1976, NOBLE is committed to conducting research and sponsoring programs that lead to the formation of policies and procedures to improve the delivery of law enforcement services. The NOBLE Youth Conference and the 33rd Annual NOBLE Training Conference and Exhibition will be held July 25- 29 in downtown Norfolk.
