ODU to Test Siren Alert System July 28

Old Dominion University will conduct a test of its new siren alert system at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28.

The system, which utilizes alarm stacks mounted on the roofs of three campus buildings, will be set off twice, about five minutes apart, in order to test the main console in the Public Safety Office's Dispatch Center and the secondary console, located in the university's Emergency Operations Center.

It is expected that the alarms will reach parts of the Lambert's Point, Highland Park and Larchmont neighborhoods.

A subsequent test may be necessary between 10:20-10:30 a.m. and again between 12:30-1 p.m. to adjust the speakers for echoes.

ODU recently installed the new audible siren/public address system for activation in severe emergency situations, such as an active shooter, multiple-alarm fire, tornado sighting or chemical spill.

For more information about the test, call University Relations at 683-3114 or visit www.odu.edu.
