49th Street Closures Scheduled for July
The city of Norfolk will resurface 49th Street from Hampton Boulevard to Powhatan Avenue in July. The work will be conducted in phases and is scheduled as follows:
On July 8, 49th Street will be closed at the intersection with Hampton Boulevard. Access to Old Dominion University parking lots 5 and 8 will be available via Bluestone Avenue, coming from the west.
From July 9-11, 49th Street will be closed between Bluestone Avenue up to the entrance to lot 8. Access to lots 5 and 8 will be available via Hampton Boulevard. During this phase, several crosswalks will be removed from 49th Street. After installation of the new pavement, there will be three crosswalks on 49th Street between Hampton Boulevard and Bluestone Avenue. Two of the new crosswalks will be located at the intersection of Hampton Boulevard and Bluestone Avenue, and the third will be between Constant Hall and the Visual Arts Building at the entrance to the new Foreman Field game-day building.
From July 14-18, the contractor will mill the old asphalt. During the resurfacing, at least one lane of traffic will be open; traffic control will be in place at all times.
