ODU's Seleznev Named CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Old Dominion University tennis player Aleksandr Seleznev was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2008-09 in voting by the league's 12 sports information directors.
Seleznev, who hails from Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, is a senior with a double major in decision sciences and finance and will graduate in December 2009. A dean's list student, he was the recipient of the Wilkins/Howard Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award at ODU earlier this year, and was a four-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Award recipient.
On the court, Seleznev earned CAA men's tennis Player of the Year honors after posting a 29-9 record at No. 1 singles this season and a 21-6 mark at No. 1 doubles with partner Tobias Fanselow. He finished the year ranked 85th in the nation in singles and 35th in doubles by the International Tennis Association. He also earned spots in the NCAA singles and doubles championships this spring, finishing his college tennis career with eight All-CAA honors, including a pair of first-team selections in singles and doubles.
The CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is given to male and female athletes who are starters or important reserves on their team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
