Laroussi's Research Into Cold Plasma Proves a Draw in Noted Physics Journal

An article submitted by Old Dominion University Professor Mounir Laroussi is among the most popular in the most recent edition of a prominent physics journal.

Laroussi's article, "Experimental investigations of plasma bullets," appears in the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, volume 42.

The director of the Laser and Plasma Engineering Institute of ODU's electrical and computer engineering department, Laroussi has achieved wide acclaim for his research in the field of cold plasmas.

His "plasma pencil," a hand-held device that can produce room-temperature plasmas to kill bacteria, heal wounds and treat plaque, has been featured in science journals worldwide.

Journal publisher Sarah Quin informed Laroussi that his article was among the top 10 percent of all submissions received by the online journal.

"I would like to thank you for supporting Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics," Quin wrote. "I hope you will consider submitting further papers to the journal and encourage your colleagues to do likewise."

Laroussi said he's flattered by the attention his work has received.

"It is very gratifying when your work is recognized by your peers. They are the real judges of the quality of the work," Laroussi said.
