Gordon Galleries Present New Exhibition Featuring Art of Glass

"Vetri//Alt: Glass Alternatives" will open at Old Dominion University's Baron and Ellin Gordon Galleries Saturday, May 16, with a reception at 7 p.m. The exhibition continues through July 12.

Part of the Chrysler Museum of Art's "The Art of Glass II," the 10-year anniversary of the highly successful 1999 Southeastern Virginia celebration, "The Art of Glass," the exhibition is a visual homage to the colorful and fluid medium of contemporary glass.

The show is co-curated by Bonnie Biggs, professor of art at Cornish College of the Arts, and Ken Daley, professor of printmaking at ODU. Daley, who has also become known for large-scale neon installations, will have some of his work in the exhibit. Biggs, an artist who utilizes an industrial laminating process to produce large-scale figurative images in layers of glass, also will exhibit her work. Other artists whose work will be on display include four West Coast artists (Ruth King, Mark Zirple, Amy Pruzan and Therese Lahaie) and four other East Coast artists (Jackie Pancari, Alan Klein and Michael Rogers) whose works explore the narrative and nonfunctional themes of art glass.

Admission to the Gordon Galleries, located at 4509 Monarch Way in the University Village, is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 683-6271.
